Nursery Art
Just came across this great idea for art in the nursery from designer Windsor Smith. I'll have to keep my eyes open for vintage letters at the flea market this weekend.
mindy, you inspire me deeply. i love love love the colors you picked for your site. reading your description of illuma gave me such peace and a reminder of how art is so deeply integrated in who we are as God's creation. i wish i could go with you to the flee market. find some good stuff. i am grateful for you.
Illuma is the name of our little company. Nick's part is Illuma Photography and I represent Illuma Design. We've just begun and we are growing. Some day we'll have a website I'll link to here. But, for now, be satisfied with the idea that illuma (in our minds, if not the dictionary) stems from the word illuminate which is defined as follows:
1 il·lu·mi·nate Pronunciation: \i-ˈlü-mə-nət\ Function: adjective Date: 15th century 1 archaic : brightened with light 2 archaic : intellectually or spiritually enlighten
Our view on the arts is two fold. First, we believe that our Christian worldview offers the Total Truth in respect to all parts of life. There is no secular/sacred split. Even our art, that is, especially our art, as the creative outflow of created beings, is a significant part of that Total Truth and therefore matters. Second, the arts, in general, are the tangible voice of the ages. Look at art from any period and you can determine a culture's values. Our aim is to live out that Total Truth in all aspects of our lives, including our creative lives, and to, hopefully, use it to illuminate and enlighten.
